We are currently seeking an enthusiastic, curious and flexible Teacher Intern for our Prep School Physical Education and Athletics departments. This position also includes significant athletic coaching and/or co-curriculars.

The UCC Physical Education and Athletics Teacher Intern position will provide differentiated classroom support, co-teaching, individual & small group instruction in SK to Year 7 physical education classes. You may also provide supply coverage to Prep teachers. This position also includes significant athletic coaching and/or co-curriculars.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

Work with skill, passion and enthusiasm within our physical education and co-curricular program, including coaching and intramural games;

Employ best practices for teaching students at the elementary school level;

Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, assemblies and various professional development opportunities.

Collaborate with the Learning Leader of Physical Education, our Athletics Director, and our IB Coordinators to develop units of work and coaching plans;

Collaborate with colleagues within the department and beyond, with humility and openness to feedback on all aspects of the role, from students, parents and colleagues;

Support student learning through individual, small group & whole class instruction as needed;

Support classroom management and student social emotional needs;

Support student learning through operational tasks such as: marking, preparing materials, displays, organizing materials;

Assist with parent-teacher & student-led conferences, parent information evenings, special events, etc;

Fully participate in the Norval program, including overnight excursions;

Actively supervise skating classes and/or hockey practices on the ice;

UCC students benefit from a robust co-curricular program including athletics. Many teams have the opportunity to participate in weekend and CAIS tournaments. Some CAIS weekend tournaments are out of province. Therefore some responsibilities may include travel or weekend coaching;

Supervision duties on late start Wednesday;

Provide IB students with project support.

Job Requirements

Experience, Knowledge and Competencies:

Both a Bachelors of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Education;

Teachers Qualifications in the Primary-Junior or Junior-Intermediate Grades;

Practicum or teaching experience with Primary-Junior or Junior-Intermediate Grades;

Proficiency in ice-skating is required;

Proficiency in swimming is an asset;

Maintains accurate records, plans assessments within policies, utilizes learning management systems, and demonstrates subject matter expertise;

Demonstrates commitment to justice, fairness, equity, and values diversity to create an inclusive community, addressing issues related to bias and prejudice;

Possesses a collaborative disposition, excellent interpersonal and communication skills;

Designs lessons to address diverse needs, styles, and interests, fostering problem-solving and lifelong learning;
