At Upper Canada College, we use technology to nurture creativity, spark imagination, and inspire curiosity. The role of the Innovation and Technology Coach is to collaborate with faculty to deepen their understanding of emerging technologies, model innovative teaching practices, and use research-backed strategies to foster a vibrant academic environment that pioneers new and transformative ways of teaching and learning. In conjunction with innovation coaching, this role is tasked with bridging the gap between faculty academic needs and the technological solutions provided by the Information and Innovation Team. This role will collaborate closely with Academic leadership teams and the Information and Innovation leadership team to engage all members of the school community in support of the continuum of high-quality teaching and learning that is aligned with UCCs vision, mission, values and strategic direction. This position has a one-course teaching requirement and is a member of the Information and Innovation Department.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

Information and Innovation Operations

Work collegially as a member of the Information and Innovation Department, to ensure the successful implementation of Information & Innovation services and to support school-wide technology and innovation goals;

Collaborate with the Help Desk to support the annual software rollovers and the annual hardware rollouts;

Provide support and process documentation for academic technology tools that assist both faculty and Help Desk staff.

Design and deliver the new faculty and student orientations;

Innovation, Research and Curricular Development

Work collaboratively as part of the broader cross-school technology and integration team to ensure vertical alignment from K-12 for the Colleges technology vision by creating and maintaining the scope and sequence for curricular technology integrations, including but not limited to the use of the Learning Management Systems, Digital Citizenship curriculum and academic technology skills;

Work with leadership teams, academic teams and the Information and Innovation team to research the impact of emerging technologies on the classroom, curriculum and pedagogical practices;

Collaborate with both faculty and Faculty Chairs to support and develop innovative curricular enhancements as well as identify new opportunities for the development of technology-enhanced lesson plans and curricula.

Play a substantial role in the advocacy and integration of emerging technologies;

Play a lead role in supporting and growing the Principals Innovation Fund;

Stay current with advancements in pedagogy and technology through research, conferences and community involvement;

Professional Development & Faculty Support

Provide faculty professional development and coaching for educational technology tools in Years 8 - 12;

Deliver on-demand support for educational technology and academic systems such as Managebac, BrightSpace, Blackbaud SIS, Hapara;

Develop and deliver support for academic processes such as report card writing, BrightSpace course development, ManageBac gradebooks;

Work with faculty in one-on-one and group environments to support and improve their technology pedagogical knowledge;

Play a lead role in the delivery of professional development through the Colleges ongoing PD days and opportunities.

Academic Duties:

Teach 1 course;

Supervise an IB student project (Personal Project or Extended Essay) annually.

Job Requirements

Experience, Knowledge and Competencies:

Post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant field;

A University Major in a Subject of Expertise is preferred.

3 years of experience in classroom technology integration and/or coaching with learners and educators;

Experience in both a middle and high school educational environment;

Knowledge of the Ontario Ministry curriculum and the IB program, especially MYP and DP

Knowledge of teaching techniques and curriculum development;

Knowledge and understanding of trends, teaching strategies and relevant research regarding the use and application of technology in the classroom from Year 8 - Year 12;

Experience with technology integration frameworks such as TPACK, Design Thinking, and SAMR;

Experience implementing emerging technologies with an awareness of impact on education and a skillful management of change;

Strong knowledge and skill in a wide variety of current software and hardware technologies such as Google Workspace, BrightSpace, Managebac, Hapara, Blackbaud Education Management, GenAI tools and Classroom AV, VR, AR;

Willingness to learn and apply emerging technologies and techniques;

Willingness to adapt based on the unique and diverse needs of the students;

Collaborative, energetic disposition with demonstrated creativity and passion for working.
