Position: Learning Resources Teacher - Middle & Senior Schools (Grades 4-12)

Start Date: September 23, 2024Urban Academy is seeking innovative, future-focused teachers and leaders. We are a rapidly growing independent school in New Westminster located in a beautiful new facility across the street from Braid Street Skytrain Station. Urban Academy is currently inviting dedicated, team-oriented teachers and future leaders to apply for our Learning Resources Teacher position for the 2024-2025 school year. Please indicate the recent professional development and co-curricular experience you possess as part of your candidacy for this position.Faculty are required to support the schools co-curricular program. The co-curricular program includes recreational athletics, competitive athletics, and academic clubs. Faculty are expected to attend collaborative staff meetings and to serve on committees, if required.The Learning Resource Teacher works with families, divisional facilitators, classroom teachers, educational assistants, community support professionals, and administrative staff to ensure the implementation of Inclusive Education programs for K-12 students. Responsibilities will include: Provide direct support to students who have diverse abilities in an inclusive education environment.

Provide support for families with students who have diverse abilities.

Conducts a variety of assessments including classroom observation, curriculum based, informal and formal

Maintain knowledge and access to resources and strategies to assist students

Complete with all administrative requirements and maintaining all documentation to ensure that students qualify for Ministry of Education Inclusive Education funding

Develops, implements, and evaluates individualized education plans (IEPs)

Liaise with parents, school, staff and multi-disciplinary team (eg. doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers) as needed

Advise teachers on the implementation of UDL strategies, executive functioning skills and behaviour management within the classroom

Demonstrate commitment to culturally sustaining teaching practices: infuse diverse voices and perspectives in planning and delivery of learning experiences, including Indigenous, local, and global world views

Build a strong rapport with students and support the students social and emotional development

Make relevant and innovative use of multiple technologies and assistive technologies

Contribute to the extra-curricular program in the school

Provide supervision for students during recess, lunch, and after school, and occasional class coverage, as assigned

Communicate consistently and professionally with students, parents, faculty and other stakeholders about student needs and growth

Practice professionalism through ongoing professional development, reflection, and continuous improvement.All applicants must possess: Post-secondary degree in Education.

Valid BC Teaching Certificate, or maintain the ability to obtain one. Please indicate your TRB # on your application (L or J followed by 6 digits)

Canadian residency and be legally entitled to work in Canada

Further education in courses designed to meet the diverse needs of exceptional learners in the following areas is preferred: differentiated instruction, teaching children and youth with a variety of special needs, assessment/testing theory and practice (which includes Level B testing), strategies for adapting and modifying curriculum, teaching students in Inclusive settings, learning disabilities, giftedness, assistive technology or augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Functional Behavioural Assessment and Positive Behaviour Support and Universal Design For Learning (UDL)

Urban Academy provides: Competitive Compensation at a salary range of $64,685 to $110,765 inclusive of vacation pay and commensurate with years of teaching experience
